ACIDITY

Acidity is a group of symptoms caused by excess production of acid by the gastric glands of the stomach. The stomach normally secretes hydrochloric acid which is required for the breakdown and digestion of food we eat. The symptoms are like dyspepsia, heartburn, gastric inflammation and ulcers in the stomach.

Acidity is generally caused because of several factors like dietary habits, stress, smoking and alcohol consumption, lack of physical activity, irregular eating patterns.

The acidity is more common in countries where individuals eat more of non-vegetarian, oily and spicy foods. Certain medications like non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) also predisposes individuals to gastric acidity.

The most common symptom is a burning sensation after eating a meal. Sour belching is also mostly seen. Sometimes, constipation and indigestion is also seen in people having acidity. Acidity can be treated by making changes in eating and lifestyle habits.

Robinia Pseudoacacia: Robinia Pseudoacacia has marked action on gastric symptoms like dyspepsia, indigestion, heartburn, and mainly hyperacidity. The acidity is always accompanied by frontal headache. Eructations are intensely acrid. Nausea and sour eructations with profuse, acrid and greenish vomiting. There is great distension of stomach and bowels. Robinia Pseudoacacia also helps in flatulent colic, with dull aching in the abdomen. Stools are sour. Colic and flatulence with nightly burning pains in stomach and constipation with urgent desire. Robinia Pseudoacacia is also useful in acidity of children. Stools and perspiration smells sour in children.

Natrum Phosphoricum: Natrum Phosphoricum is a chief remedy for hyperacidity and ulcers in the mouth. There is yellow, creamy coating at the back part of the roof of mouth. Thin and moist coating on the tongue. There are ulcers or blisters on the tip of the tongue. Natrum Phosphoricum is very effective for people who experience stomach pain after eating with great acidity. There are sour risings with sour eructations, taste and sour vomiting.Ailments caused due to too much sugar. It also helps in diarrhea caused by excess acidity. Stools sour smelling. Sudden urging with difficulty in retaining stool.

Other Remedies:

Acetic Acid: fermentation in stomach; sour belching; burning water brash and profuse salivation; intense burning thirst; cold drinks distress.

Argentum Nitricum: Acidity due to nervousness; before any important event; belching; desire to eat sweets, flatulent distension of abdomen, painful swelling at the pit of stomach.

Nux Vomica: Acidity due to sedentary life-style and lack of exercise, eating too much seasoned food, stimulants, and over-eating.

Pulsatilla: Acidity and uneasiness after taking rich fatty food; absence of thirst; taste of food remains for a long time.

Iris V: Hyperacidity with sour and bitter belching.

Carbo Veg: Slow and imperfect digestion. Offensive flatulence better by passing gas or eructation.

Cinchona Officinalis(China): Slow digestion and no change after passing gas or after belching.

Lycopodium: Abdomen is bloated with easy satiety. Aggravation 4 to 8 pm.

Bio-Combination # 25: This remedy is indicated in gastric disturbances, acidity, flatulence, dyspepsia; sour risings. There is feeling of weight in the abdomen. It also helps in bilious vomiting, flatulent colic, headache, and jaundice.
