Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a condition in which various kinds of noises are continually heard in the ear.

The noise may be humming, roaring, hissing, rushing etc. It is often accompanied by vomiting and at times itching.

The Eighth Cranial Nerve is the Vestibulocochlear Nerve.

It has two parts --- cochlear and vestibular.

1.The symptoms of a cochlear nerve lesion are deafness and tinnitus.
The signs are of hearing loss, with bone conduction decreased as well as air conduction. This is called sensorineural or perceptive deafness.

2.The main symptoms of a vestibular lesion is vertigo. Vomiting frequently accompanies acute vertigo of any cause. Nystagmus ( rhythmic oscillation of the eyes ) is the principal physical sign, often with loss of balance.
Meniere's disease is a condition characterized by recurrent attacks of three symptoms - vertigo, tinnitus and deafness. It is associated with a dilatation of the endolymph system of unknown cause.

Symptoms

- The sudden unprovoked attacks of vertigo with vomiting and loss of balance last from minutes to hours.
- Tinnitus and deafness accompany an attack but may be over-shadowded by the degree of vertigo.
-The attacks are recurrent over months or years.
Ultimately deafness develops and the vertigo ceases.

Graphites: Graphites has marked action in treating ear disorders like tinnitus or noises in ear. The patient hears better when in a noise, when riding in a carriage or when there is rumbling sound. Loss of hearing with dryness of ears. Cracking, humming and roaring in ears. There is swelling of the glands under the ear. Hissing sounds in ear.

Kali Muriaticum: Kali Muriaticum is a chief head remedy for noises in the ear. Noises such as moving of train, sounds of birds. Snapping and cracking noise while swallowing or blowing nose. Kali Muriaticum also helps in chronic catarrhal conditions of the middle ear with noises in the ear. There is deafness from swelling of external ear and throat troubles. There is great effusion about the auricle. It also helps in glandular swellings and in infectious diseases of children. Glands about the ear are swollen. Kali Muriaticum also helps in deafness due to blow.

Chenopodium Anthelminthicum: It is a chief remedy for many ear problems like hearing problems, problems of the auditory nerves and aural vertigo. The patient hears better for high pitched sounds. There is comparative deafness to sound of voice, but great sensitiveness to sound as of passing vehicles and also shrinking from low tones. There is buzzing in the ears with aural vertigo.
