Obesity (Adiposis) is excessive deposition of fat in subcutaneous and other tissues, which is associated with metabolic disorders.
- The main cause is overeating
- Hereditary and Constitutional predisposition are also important.
- Pregnancy, lactation, and menopause are among other factors responsible for obesity in women
- May also be due to endocrine diseases thyroid, pituitary, or diseases of central nervous system infection, injury, tumour.
There is a type of obesity in which fat is deposited in tender tumour-like growths ( lipomatosis )
The clinical picture of obesity is quiet varied, depending upon the degree of the condition, length of a pathological process, and the presence of changes in other organs and systems.

The degree of obesity is determined by Broca's formula
Weight of individual=height - 100
First degree - weight exceeds by 30%
Second degree - weight exceeds by 30 - 50%
Third degree - weight exceeds by 50 - 100%
Fourth degree - weight exceeds over 100%
Individuals with first and second degree of obesity do not complain of their disease. But patients with obesity of the third and fourth degree complain of many other symptoms such as dyspnoea, joint pains, constipation, menstrual disorders, fatigue, impaired memory and many more. Long-standing and pronounced obesity provokes change in all systems especially cardiovascular system.

Fucus Vesiculosus: Fucus Vesiculosus is a suitable remedy for obesity and non-toxic goitre ( enlargement of thyroid gland ). Fucus Vesiculosus helps in treating thyroid enlargement especially in obese people. There is a feeling of compression by an iron ring around the forehead.

Calcarea Carbonica: Calcarea Carbonica is useful in persons having tendency to put on weight due to faulty activity of glandular secretions. There is also disposition to grow fat hence useful in obesity. The patient is over worked and exhausted. Profuse sweating, discharges often sour and depressed feeling.

Antimonium Crudum: Patient feels exhausted in warm weather. Tongue thickly coated.

Graphites: Obese chilly constipated patient especially women when there is history of delayed menses, prone to skin ailments.

Ammonium Carbonicum: Obese patients with weak heart. Sensitive to cold, aversion to water.
