Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a non - infectious, inflammatory disease of the skin, characterized by well- defined red plaques with large, adherent, silvery scales.

The main abnormality in psoriasis is increased superficial proliferation due to excessive division of cells, in the basal layers and a shorter cell cycle time

The exact cause remains unknown, but certain precipitating factors are more likely to cause.
- Trauma, i.e in areas of skin damage such as scratches or surgical wounds
- Infection of the throat often precedes few types.
- Sunlight i.e by uv light
- Drugs like anti- malarial, beta blockers etc.
- Emotions seem to precipitate some exacerbations.
Common patterns are Plaque pattern and Guttate psoriasis.
The main regions affecting are scalp, nails, flexor parts, palms.

Kali Arsenicosum: Kali Arsenicosum has marked action on skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis and ulcers. There is dry, scaly eruptions with itching worse from warmth, walking and undressing. It is also useful in chronic eczema. There are fissures in bends of arms and knees. There are numerous small nodules under the skin. Intolerable itching worse while undressing in psoriasis.

Kali Sulphuricum: Kali Sulphuricum has marked action on psoriasis. There are burning, itching, papular eruptions. Skin is dry, hot and burning. Itchy eruptions in nettle rash in children. Kali Sulph also helps in seborrhoea or dandruff and ringworm of scalp or beard with abundant scales. Sores on skin with thick, profuse, yellow watery secretion.

Sulphur: Chief remedy for psoriasis, the patient has aversion to bathe. Indicated in stoop shouldered patients.

Graphites: Helps in cautious, constipated and indescisive individuals. Even little injury suppurates.

Hydrocotyle Asiatica: Extensive thickning and exfoliation of the skin.
