Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian disorders can manifest in host in the form of Ovarian cysts.

A large ovarian cyst is not uncommon for the patient to develop cachexia, and emaciation. Pressure symptoms too may be encountered.
Axial rotation of an ovarian cyst leads to extremely severe abdominal pain. Sometimes the severity is comparable to that of a perforated gastric ulcer. The cyst is tense and tender, and there is acute local tenderness and rigidity of the abdominal wall.
There are also menstrual disorders like amenorrhea, menorrhagia, irregular menstrual cycles, dysmenorrhea etc.

In polycystic ovarian diseases, the patient is very often obese, anemic, with pitting oedema feet, hirsutism ( abnormal growth of hair on the face ), change in voice etc.

Causative factors

- delayed menarche or menopause,
- breast tumours,
- contraceptive devices or pills,
- suppression or repression of sexual desire,
- celibacy, unmarried girls, widows,
- malnutrition, anaemia , nutritional disorders or deficiencies etc.
- suppression of emotions, fears, reserved, displeasure, mental stress, prolonged mental conditions emotion or exertion, disappointment in love, unfortunate love, loss of near and dear ones suddenly, grief etc.

Chief Remedies:

Colocynthis: Ovarian neuralgia with intense pain causing patient to double up with restlessness.

Conium Maculatum: Chronic Ovaritis with lancinating pain. Soreness and swelling of breast before menses.

Apis Mellifica: Ovary is swollen especially right side with burning pain. Worse by coughing.

Arsenicum Album: Burning and lancinating pain as if coals were burning in the part. Relieved by hot application.

Graphites: Swelling and induration of left ovary with stony hardness. Voilent pain on touch.

Iodum: Induration and swelling of ovary with thick yellow burning leucorrhea, better after eating.
