Pollen, Airborne Allergies - remedies in homeopathy

Allergies are caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system.  The immune system normally protects the body against harmful substances like bacteria, viruses, toxins etc. Allergy is caused when the immune system reacts to substances (allergens) that are- generally harmless and in most people do not cause an immune response. Heredity, environmental conditions, number and type of exposures and emotional factors can increase the sensitivity of the immune system.

Symptoms:

• Itchy, runny, stuffy noses and itchy eyes and sneezing. Often caused by pollen from trees, grass, weeds etc. which is commonly called Hay Fever.
• With the onset of cold weather the hay fever subsides.
• Persistent allergic rhinitis can however occur through out the year, and is caused by indoor allergens such as dust, mite and animal dander
• Hay fever (allergic rhinitis) is an allergic reaction to pollen.
• An identical reaction occurs with allergy to animal dander, dust, and similar inhaled allergens.

When an allergen such as pollen enters the body of a person with a sensitized immune system (defence system), it triggers anti-body formation. Body tissues release histamine and other chemical as part of the defence response. This causes itching, swelling of affected tissues, mucus production, muscle spasms, and other symptoms.

Most trees produce pollen in the spring, grass and flowers produce pollen during the summer, and ragweed and other late-blooming plants produce pollen during late summer and early autumn. During the pollen season, the chances of allergies increases.

If homeopathic medicines are judiciously employed allergies can be easily managed with the following homeopathic remedies

• Allium Cepa: Cold with sneezings and profuse discharge from nose and eyes. Worse in warmth and better in open air.
• Euphrasia: Profuse discharge from eyes and eyes are itchy. Eyes water all the time. Discharge from eyes is thick and excoriating, Burning and swelling of the lids. Little blisters on cornea. 
• Natrum Muriaticum: Violent, fluent coryza, lasting from one to three days, then causing stoppage of nose, making breathing difficult. Discharge is thin and watery, like raw white of egg.
• Sabadilla: Spasmodic sneezing and running nose. Coryza, with severe pains in the frontal region and redness of eyes and watery discharge. Copious, watery, nasal discharge.
• Wyethia Helenoides: Remedy for hay-fever with itching in posterior nares. There is Constant clearing and hemming. Dryness in posterior nares; no relief from clearing. Throat feels swollen; epiglottis dry and burning. Difficult swallowing. Constant desire to swallow saliva. Uvula feels elongated. Dry, hacking cough, caused by tickling of the epiglottis.
• Ambrosia Atremisiafolia: Remedy for hay fever with lachrymation and intolerable itching of the eyelids. Watery coryza; sneezing; watery discharge. Stuffed up feeling of nose and head. Irritation of trachea and bronchial tubes, wheezy cough.
• Sulphur: Itching is intolerable. Scratching relieves but causes burning.
• Arsenicum Album: Itching, burning, swellings; œdema, eruption, papular, dry, rough, scaly; worse cold and scratching. Burning with restlessness.
• Pothos: Pothos also helps in sneezing caused due to allergic condition to dust.
