Tonsillitis

Tonsils are glands situated on either side at the root of the tongue.

It is this inflammation of tonsils termed as Tonsillitis.

It may be of two forms, Acute and Chronic.

Symptoms

It is accompanied with great pain, swelling of one or both tonsils, impossibility of swallowing and talking of opening the mouth or moving the head. It is also attended with fever, chilliness, headache, loss of appetite, pain in the joints, salivation, collateral oedema of the pharynx, extending some times into the eustachian tubes, with pain in the ears to larynx, with breathlessness,or paroxysms of suffocation, especially on lying down. Persons once affected by tonsillitis are liable to repeated attacks.

Causes

Bacteria, bad teeth or unhealthy gums present in the mouth or from inhalation of bad smells.

Homeopathic Treatment:

Chief Remedies:

Aconite: tonsils swollen, dark red in colour with fever; aggravation after exposure to cold dry winds, in evening; fear; anxiety; restlessness; increased thirst.

Apis Mellifica: red and highly inflamed tonsils; burning stinging pain on swallowing; better by cold; worse from heat.

Baryta Carbonica: right tonsil tend to suppurate; tonsillitis after cold; pain in throat; worse on empty swallowing.

Belladonna: swollen tonsils; throat dry; angry looking, bright red in colour; worse right side; feels constricted; Decreased thirst.

Hepar Sulphuris Calcareum: recurrent tonsillitis; sensivity to cold air; sensation of a splinter in throat aggravation from cold.

Lachesis Mutus: left tonsil is affected first then right one; swallowing of liquids is more difficult then solids; aggravation after sleep, from tight color, from touch.

Mercurius Solubilis: redness of tonsils; suppuration of tonsils; bad breath; ulcerated tonsils; pain on empty swallowing; worse night.

Phytolacca Decandra: tonsils are red; throat feels rough and hot; cannot swallow any thing hot; shooting pain in ears on swallowing.

Other Remedies:

Bio-Combination # 10: This remedy is indicated in inflamed and follicular tonsillitis. The tonsils are painful and swollen with white coating or greying white patches on tongue or tonsils, bad breath with loss of appetite. Fever, a feeling of lassitude, pains in the back and limbs.
