Diarrhoea

Diarrhoea is repeated passage of loose or semi-liquid stools or large quantities.

Diarrhoea occurs in

1. Acute and chronic intestinal infections (enteritis, enterocolitis, sigmoiditis )
2. Various exogenous intoxications ( arsenic or mercurial poisoning
3. Endogenous intoxications ( uraemia, gout, diabetes ).
4. Endocrine disorders ( thyrotoxicosis, adrenal dysfunction ).
5. Hypersensitivity to some food ( allergy)
6. Inflammation of the intestine.

In diarrhoea there is no tenesmus and the stools are large in quantity without mucous or slime.

Homeopathic Treatment:

Chief Remedies:

Aconite: sudden diarrhea; cutting pain before and during diarrhea; anxiety, restlessness, fear with diarrhea.

Aloe Socotrina: has to hurry to toilet after eating or drinking, inability to control stools; stools escape while passing wind; rumbling in abdomen before stools.

Argentum Nitricum: diarrhea from sweets and sugar; greenish stools like chopped spinach.

Arsenicum Album: diarrhea with excessive thirst, restlessness and anxiety; offensive smelling stools; watery; great exhaustion after stools.

Chamomilla: dentition diarrhea; diarrhoea after anger, colic before and after stools; yellowish or greenish watery stools like chopped eggs or spinach; smelling like rotten eggs.

Cinchona Officinalis(China): painless diarrhoea with great weakness; abdomen bloated; stools yellow, watery, undigested, involuntary.

Croton Tiglium: sudden expulsion of stools with force as if coming out like a shot; aggravation after or while eating or drinking; great exhaustion.

Gelsemium: diarrhoea because of anxiety and apprehensions; nervous diarrhoea.

Nux Vomica: diarrhoea due to high living; prolonged drugging; alcoholic drinks and other stimulants; ineffectual stools.

Podophyllum: profuse, polychromatic, gushing out stools; offensive smelling; worse in hot weather.

Other Remedies:

Pulsatilla: diarrhoea after rich fatty food, ice-creams, chocolates; thirstlessness; desire for open air; no two stools are alike.

Rheum Officinale: sour smelling stools, with colic; shivering while passing stools; tenesmus after stool.

Sulphur:  early morning diarrhoea forcing the patient out of his bed; painless; redness around the anus. 

Bio-Combination 8: This remedy is useful for thin watery stools with undigested food, thirst, caused by fat or too rich food. It also helps in diarrhea during dentition with thin watery, greenish stools, stools with blood, involuntary stools. White coated tongue and prostration. It is also recommended in convalescence.
