Vertigo
This is a hallucination of movement of either the body or part of it, or the surroundings.
The perceived movement may be of falling or rotating, or a sensation that the outside world is spinning ; sometimes the vertigo is so intense that the sufferer falls to the ground. The patient usually describes this as giddiness or dizziness.
Vertigo of Labyrinth origin is often marked, and accompanied by nausea, vomiting, spinning, pallor and occasionally syncope.
It is important to establish whether the patient is describing true vertigo, or less precise feelings of imbalance, or light headedness;
In some patients vertigo is induced by certain head postures,or sudden changes in head posture it is called Positional vertigo.
It usually continues for only few seconds.
