Sun- stroke or Heat Stroke is a syndrome due to overheating the body core.

It is often a complication of heat exhaustion and prickly heat.

It can also occur, especially in unacclimatised people or in those with congenital lack of sweat glands, in response to exertion in a hot humid environment.

In exceptional weather even local inhabitants may suffer.

Unsuitable clothing poor ventilation increase the risk.

The disorder is always associated with cessation of sweating.

Symptoms

The onset is dramatic with no warning in a person who appears to be neither dehydrated nor deficient in salt, but who may have noticed that perspiration is diminished.

Loss of consciousness is rapid and may be preceded by prodromal signs of cerebral irritation.

On examination dry burning skin is found ( the hot dry man ). When the temperature reaches 41° and 42°C the patient loses consciousness and even dies, unless treated.

Homeopathic Treatment:

Chief Remedies:

Aconite: symptoms appear rapidly; skin is dry; excessive thirst, restlessness, anxiety and fear; worse from warmth.

Belladonna: severe throbbing headache with feeling of fullness; face is flushed and eyes blood shot with dilated pupils; high fever with no thirst; burning, dry hot skin.

Bryonia: painful feeling of fullness of head; splitting headache; worse on least motion; nausea, worse trying to sit up; great thirst with dry lips and tongue.

Gelsemium: occipital headache; spreads from occiput to whole head; dimness of vision; giddiness as if intoxicated; absence of thirst; frequent urination.

Glonoinum: terrible bursting, throbbing headache, with a sensation as if brain is expanding; pain at the back of head; giddiness, vertigo, nausea precede unconsciousness; sun headaches which increase and decrease with sun.

Natrum Carbonicum: chronic after-effects of sunstroke; great debility from heat of summers; headache returns with the return of hot weather; vertigo from exposure to sun.
