Leucoderma

Leucoderma is a term broadly used to denote depigmentation or diminution of pigment of the skin which is solely due to lack of melanin production by the melanocytes - the cells that make the pigment.

Vitiligo resembles leucoderma. Vitiligo is a common skin disorder in which the white spots appear on the skin, usually occurring on both sides of the body in the same location.

Exactly we do not know the cause of this loss of colouring matter.
But doctors ad and researchers have several different theories regarding it.

There is s strong evidence that people inherit a group of three genes that makes them susceptible to depigmentation. The most accepted view is that the depigmentation occurs because it is an autoimmune disease - a disease in which a person's immune system reacts against the body's own organs or tissues.
- Emotional disturbance, sun burn may trigger depigmentation.
- It sometimes occurs at the site of an old injury.
- In some cases worms, hypothyroidism, chronic amoebiasis and malignancies are associated with it.

It occurs mostly in adults, but at times seen in children also.

It belongs to the group of one sided diseases, hence difficult to cure.

Most of the people have slow progression of their disease. In some people the problem will disappear by itself.

Arsenicum Sulph. Flavum: Arsenicum Sulph. Flavum is useful for relief of symptoms associated with leucoderma. There is discoloration with hypo pigmentation of the skin with burning and stitching pain.

Natrum Muriaticum: Natrum Muriaticum has marked action on leucoderma when it starts at the margins of scalp and behind the ears. There are crusty eruptions also in the bends of the limbs. Skin complaints are worse from eating too much salt, at sea shore and better in open air and by cold bathing.
