Ring worm

Dermatophytes are large group of fungi infect the skin tissues and are responsible for ringworm of the body and scalp, inguinal folds and infection of the hair and nails.

It first appears as a small yellow spot, the sheath of the hair being filled with the fungus growth, but it has no tendency to suppurate. It grows with great rapidity, and forms large, hard, dry crusts, which have a peculiar mouse - like ordor. It has rounded form, cracked and broken- looking surface, resembling honey- comb in appearance.

It is most liable to be confounded with impetigo. The distinction is based upon the presence or absence of secretion. Impetigo has pus secretion.

The scalp is the most usual place of development, but it may also found upon the nape of the neck, or in front of the ear, and even upon the arms.

Many dermatophytes are primarily parasites of domestic and farm animals.

Sepia: Sepia is an useful remedy for symptoms associated with ringworm. There are ringworm like eruptions every spring. Itching is not relieved by scratching and is worse in bends of elbows and knees. It is also useful in ringworm on face, on single parts.

Tellurium Metallicum: Tellurium Metallicum is a chief remedy for many skin complaints. There is itching of hands and feet. It also helps in herpes, ringworm, barber's itch. Ring shaped lesions with offensive odors from affected parts. There is stinging pain in skin. Offensive foot sweat. There is also eczema at back of ears and occiput. There are circular patches of eczema.

Sulphur: When accompanied with acidity, indigestion and retching. Loss of appetite and aversion to bathe.

Arsenicum Album: Ringworm on scalp. Hair falls in patches. Unquenchable thirst and restlessness. Skin is dry and rough.

Dulcamara: Ringworm with fetid sweat. Worse in warm damp weather.
