APTHAE (BOILS & ULCERS OF MOUTH)

It is a small, shallow sore inside the mouth or at the base of the gums.

Aphthous stomatitis is a common condition characterized by the repeated formation of benign and non-contagious mouth ulcers (aphthae) in otherwise healthy individuals.

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common condition, restricted to the mouth that typically starts in childhood or adolescence as recurrent small round or ovoid ulcers with circumscribed margins, erythematous haloes, and yellow or gray floors. A positive family history of similar ulcers is common, and the natural history is typically of resolution in the third decade of life.

Not all ulcers that recur are RAS and this has led to some significant confusion in this field. Ulcers with similar clinical features but rarely resolving spontaneously with age may be associated with systemic conditions such as Behçet syndrome, auto-inflammatory syndromes, gastrointestinal disease, or immune defects such as HIV/AIDS.

Diagnosis of RAS is based on history and clinical features. If RAS fails to respond to local measures, systemic immunomodulators may be required. However, research indicates that oral vitamin B-12 may significantly reduce or eliminate RAS recurrences.

Borax: white apthae, painful, ulcers bleed easily on touch and eating; mouth hot and tender.

Mercurius Solubilis: moist mouth with increased salivation; fetid odour from mouth; painful apthae.

Kali Muriaticum: It is also a chief remedy for oral ulcers. Aphthae with white ulcers in the mouth. Swollen glands about jaw and neck. There is grayish white coating on the tongue. Tongue either dry or slimy.

Other Remedies:

Nitricum Acidum: painful apthae as if pain from splinters, sticking pains; ulcers on soft-palate; putrid breath.
