Urticaria

Urticaria or Nettle - rash is a skin affection characterized by prominently and perfectly smooth patches upon the skin.

Characteristic symptoms

White or red wheals with the sensation of burning and itching, sudden eruption, sudden disappearance, usually with out desquamation.

There are two forms, acute and a chronic form.

The acute form manifests itself as Febrilis Urticaria by general malaise, frequent pulse and gastric symptoms, or it may set with out any general symptoms. The whole eruption may come out suddenly, or the wheals may appear in gradual or rapid succession, or they disappear from one place and appear in another. Wheals vary much in form, size and color, some have depression in the center, but each wheal is always surrounded by a red halo.

The more extensive the eruption, the severe the itching and burning will be.

Afebrile urticaria may exist for weeks and even months, constantly renewing itself at shorter or longer intervals on different regions of the body

Several varieties of urticaria have been described, but they are merely different aspects of the same disease.

The causes of these eruptions are numerous and in some cases apparently undiscoverable.
-The contact with beetles and with some kinds of caterpillars and molluscs,
- the bites of fleas, bed- bugs, mosquitoes,
- the sting of bees,
- scratching with finger nails,
- application of any resinous drug on the skin,
- intestinal irritation from eating strawberries, crabs clams, muscles, fish, mushrooms, pork, and some kind of sausages, honey green cucumbers, etc.
- severe mental emotions, as fright, anger, etc.
- uterine irritation during pregnancy, menstruation, different uterine diseases with their hysterical states,
have all been set down as exciting causes of this troublesome disease.

Homeopathic Treatment:

Chief Remedies:

Pulsatilla: After taking rich fatty food. Better in open air.

Arsenicum Album: After taking tinned food, acid, fruits, ice-cream, over ripened fruits. Better by heat.

Oxalicum Acidum: Urticaria after strawberries.

Urtica Urens: Urticaria with severe burning and swelling. After taking crabs. No thirst and frequent urination.

Apis Mellifica: Sudden severe swelling and burning worse by heat and loss of thirst.

Uva Ursi: Urticaria without itching.
