Bronchitis

There are two types of bronchitis:

Acute and Chronic bronchitis

Acute bronchitis

This condition is an acute inflammation of the trachea and bronchi caused by viruses and pathogenic bacteria such as Strep. Pneumonia, H. influenza.
Chronic bronchitis

It develops in response to the long-term continued action of various types of irritants on the bronchial mucosa.

Eg. Cigarette tobacco smoking, inhalation of dust, fumes and smoke occurring as specific occupational hazards, or general atmospheric pollution in industrial cities and towns.

When exposure to dampness, sudden changes in temperature and to fog may cause exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.

Symptoms

First there is irritating, unproductive cough.

There may also be pain or discomfort or tightness in the chest with breathlessness.

Chief Remedies:

Arsenicum Album: Unable to lie down; fears suffocation. Air-passages constricted worst midnight. Cough worse after midnight; worse lying on back. Expectoration scanty, frothy. Darting pain through upper third of right lung. Wheezing respiration.

Ipecacunha: It helps in bronchitis when cough is dry, spasmodic, constricted. Incessant and violent cough with every breath.

Antimonium Tartaricum : It is well indicated remedy for any respiratory problem like bronchitis, pneumonia or any other lung condition with dry cough with much rattling of mucus but little expectoration. It is useful for problems arising from exposure to damp basements or cellars. There is rapid, short, difficult breathing. Suffocated feeling in the evening and at 3 am compelling the patient to sit up. Loud rattling mucus which can be heard across the room. Large accumulation causing congestion in the lungs. Cough excited by eating with pain in the chest. Cough and dysnoea better by lying on the right side.
