Dysentery - remedies in homeopathy

Dysentery

It is a disease in which ulceration occurs in the large intestines ( especially in the sigmoid flexure ), as the result of bacterial infection.

There are two types of dysentery.

1. Amoebic dysentery caused by amoeba coli

2. Bacillary dysentery caused by bacillus dysentriae.

Exposure to cold, continual fasting, bad sanitation, eating rich food or stale food or drinking impure water are the predisposing factors.

Symptoms:

- Frequent defecation with pain and gripping around the navel, straining, discharge of mucous and blood.

- There may be nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, rise of temperature.

- The skin is dry, tongue glazed, emaciation may be progressive.

Abscess of liver is secondary to amoebic dysentery.

Dysentery generally prevails epidemically, under the influence of tropical climate or one resembling a tropical climate. It is generally considered as contagious during epidemic.

Sporadic cases occur mostly after sudden check of perspiration, or after getting wet, or by eating ripe or unripe fruits. It is generally non-contagious.

Dysentery attacks all ages and both sexes.

Homeopathic Treatment:

Chief Remedies:

Aloe Socotrina: inability to control stools; stools escape while passing wind; rumbling in abdomen before stools; stools bloody or ansparant lumps or jelly, large quantities of mucous.

Arsenicum Album: diarrhoea with excessive thirst for small quantities at small intervals, restlessness and anxiety; offensive smelling stools; watery; great exhaustion after stools; stools dark or blackish, fluid, mixed with blood.

Ipecacuanha: nausea, vomiting, decreased thirst and clean tongue; frothy stools, green in colour; cutting pains worse around navel.

Mercurius Corrosivus: persistent tensesmus before and after stools; a never get done feeling in rectum; severe pain in rectum which continues after stools.

Other Remedies:

Nux Vomica: ineffectual stools unsatisfactory stools with relief in tenesmus for a short period after stool.

Sulphur: chronic and obstinate cases; mucus with blood in thread like streaks; tenesmus continues from one stool to another.

Bio-Combination 9: This remedy is useful for stools with mucous and blood. Pain when stools begin to pass. They contain mucus and blood. There is a constant urge to empty the bowels.
