Indigestion
Indigestion means failure to digest; Dyspepsia signifies difficult digestion.
It is not a disease entity but a symptom which may be presented by many different pathological states.
Causes
- It may be caused by anatomical changes in the digestive apparatus, such catarrh, inflammation, thickening, ulceration, eruptions on the membranes of the stomach
- It may be caused by quantitative, or qualitative alterations of the digestive secretions, such as alteration of the gastric juice, pancreas, also of that of liver, intestines.
- It may be caused by an abnormal condition of the nervous system, as seen in neurasthenia.
- And lastly, it may be caused by the use of irritating or stimulating food or drink.
Symptoms of the disease also vary according to the cause. Main characteristics are as follows
1. Decreased appetite, craving for sour, acrid, spicy things, etc.
2. Accumulation of wind in the stomach, due to which, belching, oppression, palpitation of heart occur.
3. Formation of acids in the stomach, and in consequence sour, rancid, eructations heartburn waterbrash, etc occur.
4. Food may not digest at all, causing vomiting or diarrhea.
5. The pit of the stomach may be sore to touch, and very sensitive to pressure of clothes, it feels full and often swollen.

Abies Nigra: Indigestion due to costriction of Esophagus.
Carbo Vegetabilis: Indigestion accompanied with flatulence, better by passing flatus.
Arsenicum Album: Indigestion from eating preserved food with burning in the stomach.
Kali Bichromicum: Heartburn immediately after taking food with pain which radiates to back between shoulder-blades.
Hydrastis Canadensis: There is burning pain in stomach with no appetite, weak digestion. Nearly all food causes disorder of stomach, particulary bread and vegetables. Empty faint feeling in stomach with loathing for food.
Nux Vomica: Indigestion from over eating and sedentary habits.
